African Blackwood has a heartwood which is purplish to brownish-black and with dark gray streaks. Overall the impression is that of looking similar to ebony. It is extremely hard, heavy, close-grained, and virtually free from any pores. African Blackwood claims the title of the finest of turnery woods, well known as the standard by which other turnery woods are judged. It is very stable, resists moisture and takes an incredibly lustrous shine. All pieces are clear with straight or beautifully wild grain and 1.5" X 1.5" X 18". There are no visible inclusions or burled areas. Questions, just email us
If any sap wood is present, it will cut out when turned round. The horizontal mark in #8 is from the planer. They're all nice!
