One Mans Opinion by Joe Barringer

TIGER MAP CRAP

Effective immediately Vartan "Tony" Kalamdaryan, owner of Tiger Products and us are no longer affiliated or doing business. We will be selling out of all Tiger Products/Tiger Cue Tips and not restocking due to what we feel is illegal activity and restraints he tried to impose upon us. When a Manufacturer in America tries to impose MAP (Minimum Advertised Prices) or what we term as price-fixing controls, we have to say no thank you because we feel we have a moral and ethical obligation to the consumer. MAP CRAP is neither nor is it in the best interest of the consumer whether wholesale or retail.

Remember...
When you purchase and support a MAP CRAP product, you are supporting the people, manufacturers and companies who stack the deck against you. They thank you for your contribution and support for playing with a stacked deck.

Tony and us have been doing business since he started Tiger Products in 1999. We started purchasing from him in 2000, almost 15 years ago. We were one of his first distributors and that was worthless in his money grubbing hands. We come from New York and in New York, people disappear for less respect than Tony has shown us. I’m a stand-up guy and never put money before friendship and long lasting business relationships. That’s the type of person we are dealing with here. Be that as it may, we all move forward and will deal with this accordingly and appropriately.

We were selling Tiger tips for almost 15 years at discounts which never bothered Tony because we were selling tens of thousands annually. Fast forward to today’s ‘me before anyone’, entitlement culture and that is no longer acceptable. He wanted us to price fix our prices so that we would be selling Tiger tips at prices just like everyone else. We are not everyone else and never will be. We are not conformists. We run our business our way especially when our money is on the line. He wanted everyone to have the same prices and did not want free competition nor a free marketplace. This is just plain un-American not to mention highly unethical and illegal.

It's ok for us to advertise and promote his product on our nickel but he wants to control the way we price our investment. Sorry, it don't work that way. Perhaps you disagree and need his products and that's why you go along with his phony MAP CRAP; but we don't. We put our money where our mouth is. When Tony at Tiger Products pays our advertising bill and promotional fees then perhaps we will consider pricing controls. Until then, we are our own firm and will price his goods our way. Perhaps other companies need his products and will succumb to his pricing manipulations. We will not because we believe in a free American marketplace. If you want controls, move to Afghanistan. We live in America - home of the brave and land of the free. I guess Tony doesn't but he likes our money.

Recently, for the past 2 years, Tony and I have been going back and forth in lengthy one hour phone calls and lengthy emails about this subject. We will never capitulate to price fixing controls; period. And so, we have today’s debacle which is going to prove catastrophic for Tony. How serious are we?

Well, when the manufacturer tells us to price fix our pricing structure, that is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. We quote him below for your reading pleasure. Here are just a few of the illegal activities Tony has tried to have us implement:

“The tips retail for $24.95 each, why do you want to kill the value?”
Joe's Comment: Where is the value! It's a freaking piece of worthless leather. This is not an ounce of Gold. It's a cue tip.

“If you are selling the tips one at a time it shouldn’t be less than $19.96”.
Joe's Comment: Really now! Price fixing anyone? How about when a dealer wants 6 of these, 3 of those and 1 of them?

“You could show the 15% discounted price on the main page as the sale price for any of our tips sold less than 6 pieces at a time. I think a cue maker or repairman will not have a problem buying 6 tips at a time if you are going to show the wholesale prices. Individuals that are buying 1 Everest and getting it at a $8.00 or Sniper at $9.25 is ridiculous”.
Joe's Comment: The market dictates the value of a product not the manufacturer with his phony and manipulated pricing.

“Those minimums and prices should be changed fast”.
Joe's Comment: Yes, I'm running!

Tony stated, in regard to price fixing, “I appreciate if you comply like everyone else”.
Joe's Comment: ROFLMAO (that's rolling on the floor laughing my ass off) So, does anyone smell a conspiracy to set artificial pricing especially since he stated, "comply like everyone else”. He admits getting everyone together to "comply". Very interesting.

"Everyone else"! And if "everyone else" jumps off the bridge are we supposed to follow? The above are but a few statements of how a manufacturer was trying to get us to price fix our Tiger tips to screw you the pool playing public. The above represents only a few months of almost 2 years of similar, highly offensive and legally damaging statements made by Tony. We got you by the short hairs bro.

The bottom line here is that Tony set up this flawed ‘minimum advertising price’ (MAP) scheme which sets retail prices so that all resellers all sell the product for the same price. It’s illegal, unethical and prevents free competition and a free marketplace. Tony does this MAP CRAP so that he can sell to everyone out there who has a pulse and calls themselves a dealer. If you purchase $150 worth of his wares at one time; you’re qualified! We no longer fit his current business model. According to Tony, we outlived our usefulness. We served a purpose years ago when he first started out and he needed us but not today. In fact, to show you how ignorant all the distributors are, none of them even realize that Tony competes with them.

We are going to show the Tiger pricing structure and let all of you decide for yourselves and see how corrupt and greedy Tony truly is. These are the actual Tiger Distributor pricing for Tiger tips as of 3/28/2014 and for the foreseeable future as Tony just gouged and raised his pricing considerably just recently. We laid in tens of thousands of dollars in inventory in anticipation of the newer distributor pricing so our stock is pretty deep right now.

Distributor prices as follows: This is what we and other distributors pay.

Emerald - $2
Everest - $6
Sniper - $7
Onyx - $9
Jump/Break - $6
IceBreaker - $7.50
Dynamite - $2.50
Soft - $4.95
Medium - $4.95
Hard - $4.95

The following prices are the higher dealer prices that Tony sells to dealers: This is what a cue maker may pay buying direct. We sold for less than Tiger so that was a problem for Tony who shouldn't be trying to compete in the distributor’s marketplace.

Emerald - $3.75
Everest - $9.75
Sniper - $11.25
Onyx - $13.75
Jump/Break - $9.75
IceBreaker - $12.25
Dynamite - $4.25
Soft - $7.75
Medium - $7.75
Hard - $7.75

Now, if you compare the difference between distributor and dealer pricing, you see that there is a decent profit for anyone who is not greedy. Well, that’s where we fall in. In fact, we sold our tips for less than Tony would to dealers and that was an issue for Tony. He wanted the large distributor sales (from us and others) but he also wanted the smaller higher priced dealer sales as well. Greedy anyone?

The fact that we were undercutting the manufacturer with dealer pricing was an issue because we were taking dealer sales away from the greedy manufacturer (Tiger Products). We’ve had numerous conversations with Tony about this policy to no avail. He wants the dealer sales along with the distributor sales. How can a distributor compete with the manufacturer? It’s just not fair but fair is not Tony’s middle name; it’s greedy.

We were happy selling for the dealer pricing or slightly under that because with our annual volume, a 20 to 30% profit was fine with us. You have to look at the large picture. What’s wrong with buying a Sniper tip for $7 and selling it for $9 or a profit of almost 30%! What’s wrong with buying an Emerald tip for $2 and selling it for a dealer price of $3 or a whopping 50% profit. I know this doesn’t sound like much but when you take a total annual sales volume for our entire operation of all products at 20% to 30%, then you are talking some serious money and that’s how we roll. We were happy with the markups we had but that wasn’t good for Tony and so we now have this dilemma.

Let’s now look at this from a consumer standpoint. Below are the MSRP and the MAP CRAP or minimum advertised price that the manufacturer wants all his lemming resellers to use and price fix the marketplace. The first price is the MSRP and the second price is the retail MAP CRAP.

Emerald - $7.95/6.75
Everest - $19.95/16.95
Sniper - $22.95/19.50
Onyx - $27.95/23.75
Jump/Break - $19.95/16.95
IceBreaker - $24.95/21.20
Dynamite - $8.95/7.60
Soft - $14.95/12.70
Medium - $14.95/12.70
Hard - $14.95/12.70

Now, let’s us look at this in the real world of price manipulation and price fixing by the manufacturer. Look at what MAP CRAP does to these items when the manufacturer is allowed to control the marketplace. It does away with a free market. It does away with free competition. Most importantly, it forces a manipulated and fixed price whereby causing the consumer, whether wholesale or retail, a higher or much higher than ordinary price than in a free market where competition is good for the marketplace and consumer.

Here is how manufacturer’s manipulate the marketplace against you.

Here is how Kamui manipulates the marketplace with their Clear tips where everyone has them listed at MAP CRAP for $20 and $23; brown and black clear. Do you think this is a free marketplace or a controlled and manipulated marketplace?

So, what’s the end result here Joe? Well, we could start litigation which we are seriously considering because we'd get all the emails Tony received from the complainers about our pricing. Also, under oath Tony would have to verbally release the names of the complainers as well who didn't like our pricing. Then, we could go after the whiners and give them what they deserve. It's very tempting indeed. We've never seen so many whiners in one business but then again this is a sport where people just love to complain about anything. "I missed the shot because you blinked". Get my drift.

Since we have more connections than Consolidated Edison, we could manufacture similar tips at huge savings and compete directly with Tony. Hmmmmm, what do you think! :-)

So, based on our stance with other products such as Kamui and Balabushka Chalk, what do you think we’ll do? Stay tuned for the 'Everest Extreme™', 'Sniper Extreme™', 'Onyx Extreme™' and the 'IceBreaker Extreme™'. And yes, those will be the names of the new tips. The other products don’t matter as they are worthless and never resulted in any great sales for us so we never promoted them.

Remember, when you shop with the Bozo's in Skokie or the clowns who sell cues and cases, call them to task and demand dealer pricing. In fact, demand dealer pricing from any of Tigers distributors. Need price validation? Email us and we'll fax you the proof.

If you think we’re wrong, that’s fine go and support a market manipulator. If you think we’re correct with our stance, then vote with your pocketbook. There are many fine products out there that are not MAP CRAP controlled and not manipulated who do deserve your hard earned dollars. Tiger tips anyone?

Conclusion: We just recently placed a large order with Tiger so we are loaded with tips. They will probably last us 12 months so we’ll be liquidating them for at least that long; hopefully not. We had to buy in $10k to $25k (we have the invoices to prove those numbers) orders to maintain our distributorship and maintain our inventory for our clients. Unfortunately, liquidating will take time so get your Tiger tips now as you will be forced to pay higher prices than you have with us in the near future because we were your lowest price source. That will be no more. If you cannot buy at the dealer pricing shown above, just say NO. You have Tony to thank for all that; be sure to email him!

If you just have to have Tiger tips, then try our Extreme Alternatives which are the same damn thing only cheaper. They're available right now. We are pricing them at strict wholesale so you can compete with anyone selling 'Tiger Map Crap' cue tips.

As Yamamoto once said, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." Funny how that fits the bill here.

And, one last thing… to all the weeny whiners out there who complained about our pricing. Check out our pricing now, you losers. You thought complaining would help you when it has now created a loose cannon. To those of you who think this is good news; WRONG!! And the reason is because now, no one has a leash on the loose cannon. We have at least a year's worth of inventory to draw from. Gee, think we anticipated this. We will never succumb to BS like this and neither should you! Have a nice day.
